Tree of Life - Water of Life

Tree of Life, Water of Life - the Book of Life

Many of you may have read this article, titled, "2,000-year-old Holy Thorn Tree of Glastonbury is cut down."

Indeed, what a feeble act. That said though, as many of you know, a tree is not what we worship. And did you notice the amount of trinkets and seemingly superstitious charms that people were hanging on and around the tree? Heck, maybe if it really was 2,000 years old, it may be worth visiting for historical and even perhaps spiritual reasons. Yet this tree was from 1952 !

From the link above -
"Yesterday he recalled watching a tree being planted on Wearyall Hill in 1951 for the Festival of Britain. Although that specimen died, it was replaced the following year and stood firm until this week."

They took bits of roots from the original thorn tree, so it is said, over the years before 51' so that they could re-plant. Once again, it is terrible that one would purposefully destroy that tree, especially since it meant so much to the community. Trees do have of course great importance and more than just producing the oxygen we breathe.

Trees are very symbolic and often used in the Bible.
For instance, the "tree of life":

"The tree of life is mentioned in the Book of Genesis; it is often considered distinct from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. After Adam and Eve fell from God's favour by eating fruit from the tree of knowledge, they were cast out of the Garden of Eden. Remaining in the garden, however, was the tree of life. To prevent access to this tree in future, two cherubs with a flaming sword were placed at the garden's entrance. (Genesis 3:22-24)"

And then of course this, on the new earth (and new heaven) which God promises in Revelations:

"In addition to the Hebrew Bible verses mentioned above, the tree of life is symbolically described in the Book of Revelation as having curing properties: "the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations." (Revelation 22:1-2)"
(Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_of_life)

It mentions the "water of life" above. On that note, here was a very interesting 1.5 hour documentary on water which has some interesting perspectives. We surely take for granted water and this is perhaps a grave mistake, for more reasons than just environmental (I do not agree with everything in this film, but a lot to consider for sure)-

Water - The Great Mystery

There is no denying that water is key for God and our faith. After all, baptism is by water and many key scriptures from the Bible on this substance, such as:

John 7:38
"Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." (NIV)

Like us humans, made in God's image, trees are generally made up of more than 60% water as well. Let that sink in, no pun intended, for a minute or two.

For sure vandalism and killing a living tree is not good, nor is polluting our watersheds and waterways. For as long as our history goes back we have been fighting against those that do not respect nature and thus the Creator. I am much more concerned though about the water of life and the tree of life, yet alone the Book of Life, for that is where we can find eternity with God through his son Jesus.
